George Pardee and Mercy Ball

My 9x Great Grandparents, George Pardee and Mercy Ball lived in New Haven, CT. George was born 18 Jan 1656 in New Haven to George Pardee and Martha Miles. Mercy was born circa 1654 in New Haven to Ailling Ball and Mercy Fugill.

George and Mercy married 10 Feb 1676 in New Haven. They had 4 children: Mercy 1676, Eliphilet 1678, Mercy 1680, and John 1683.

George farmed and ran a ferry. He took over his father’s ferry service. In 1701, George went to the Connecticut Assembly that the fare stated by lawyer the ferry at New Haven is not a meet recompense. The rates were subsequently increased to 4 pence in cash or 6 pence in pay. The ferry was located at Dragon Point which is on the Quinnipiac River. According to the Pardee genealogy, he was involved in a lawsuit against Elkanah Pembroke over breach on contract. George apparently lost a considerable sum of money and ad to borrow from friends. He had not paid it all back but had indicated in his will to make sure all debts were paid. I have not found this lawsuit any where else except the Pardee genealogy.

Mercy died 13 August 1684 leaving 4 young children.

George married second, Mercy Dennison in 1686. They had 7 children: James 1687, George 1690, Stephen 1692, Sarah 1695, Ebenezer 1699, Elizabeth, and Mary 1712.

George died 27 November 1723. His will dated 22 Nov 1723 gave 1/3 of the estate to his wife. He then divided up the rest of his estate amongst his sons, George, James, Ebenezer, Stephen, and John. Each of the sons mentioned were to give a specified amount to the creditors to repay the remaining debt he had from the lawsuit. He also gave his daughters 20 schillings each and his unmarried daughters, Elizabeth and Mary the rest of the movable estate. Inventory total was 860 pounds, 8 schillings, and 10 pence.

George is buried at the Old Cemetery in New Haven, CT. I do not know where Mercy is buried.
