John Grannis and Elizabeth Brockett

My 8x Great Grandparents John Grannis and Elizabeth Brockett settled in North Haven, CT. John was born 5 Dec 1674 in Hadley, MA to Edward Brockett and Hannah Wakefield. Elizabeth was born 26 Nov 1677 in New Haven, CT to John Brockett and Elizabeth Doolittle.

John and Elizabeth married 12 Oct 1704 in New Haven, CT. They had 3 children: Desire 1705, Elizabeth 1708, and John 1710.
Elizabeth died in 3 Nov 1711 leaving John with 3 young children to raise. John married Mary Chubb who was twice widowed and had 12 children. She had 4 more children with John: James 1717, Priscilla 1720, Caleb 1722, and Enos 1728.

John Grannis was a boot and shoemaker. He was active in the community. In 1716 he was moderator of the Ecclesiastical Society and was a member of the Prudential Committee. In 1718 he was a 1st Lieutenant of the first military company in North Haven. Other committees he was on include, 1721-seat the meeting house, 1722-procure a minister, 1730-Society  committee.

He was also the tithingman in 1727 and the pound keeper in 1732.

John Grannis died 10 Sep 1740. It is not known where he is buried. Elizabeth is buried in Montowese Cemetery, North Haven, CT. Carved in her tombstone: E G  Nov 3 1711.
