My 5x Great Grandparents, Gideon Frisbee and Huldah Kidder settled in Delhi. NY. Gideon was born in Branford, CT about 1758 to Philip Frisbie and Phoebe Hendricks. Huldah is thought to be born around 1756 in New York to Ephraim Kidder and Freedom Barnard.
Gideon is part of the Frisbie family that has a well documented genealogy. On the other hand, Huldah’s surname is not under scrutiny but parents aren’t as easily identified. As far as my research goes, there was only one Kidder family in the Columbia County, NY area that came from CT. The first 8 children were documented to be born in CT. There are 3 sons born in NY that no one disputes are the children of Epraim and Freedom even though there is no documentation. Huldah however is rarely included in the list of their children. Gideon and Huldah were married in Canaan, Columbia County in 1780 and had their first 4 children there. The family moved to Delhi, NY around 1797 where 2 of Huldah’s brothers also lived.
Gideon and Huldah had 6 children: Daniel 1781, Freelove 1782, Gideon 1783, Huldah 1788, William 1791 and Ruth 1797.
Huldah died in 1804 and is said to haunt the house in Delhi, NY. The house is a museum and they have twilight tours around Halloween that describe the unusual happenings in the house associated with Huldah. Also, I have the Eulogy book from her funeral.
Gideon remarried this time to Freelove Fiske in 1805. They had 6 children:Angeline 1806, Anzoletee 1807, George 1808, Milton 1811, Porter 1816, and Philip 1818.
Gideon was a prominent man in the community. He was a Revolutionary Soldier in the 17th Regiment, a judge, the county treasurer, a vestryman, and churchwarden on St John’s Episcopal Church, and a founder of the Delaware Academy.
Gideon died in 1828 and his obituary can be found in the Delaware Gazette.
Both Gideon and Huldah are buried behind the house in the Frisbie family cemetery.
