My 11x Great Grandparents, Daniel Titterton and Jane are the immigrants in this line of the family. Nothing has been found about them before they came here and nothing has been found as to who Jane’s parents are. Daniel is estimated to be born about 1617 and his parents are unknown. There are variations in the spelling of this name: Titterton, Titherton, and Titharton.
Daniel and Jane were married about 1637 and had seven children: John, Daniel, Samuel, Elizabeth, Mary, Johanna, and Timothy.
It is not known when they arrived in America but they moved to Stratford, CT. Daniel was elected to the Legislature as a Representative for Stratford in 1647, 1649, 1652, and 1654.
A list that shows the amount of land each resident had in 1651 includes Daniel who had land that measured 11 rods and 14 feet. Below is the town of Stratford and the plots for the original settlers. The Titterton’s plot is 66. I have included this map before showing where other ancestors plots are. It seems that my family was solidly entrenched in this community. There was Arthur Bostwick, Samuel Sherman, John Beers, widow A Kimberly, John Thompson, John Hurd, and John Brinsmead. I still have a few more branches to research so I may find some more ancestors on this map.
Daniel died in 1661. According to the probate, his wife, 3 sons and 3 daughters were named. Land in England was given to his children also.
Jane outlived Daniel as she is listed as Widow Titterson in the March 1668 Inhabitants of Stratford. It is not known when she died.
I don’t know where they are buried.
