My 8x Great Grandparents, John Beers and Mary lived in Stratford, CT. John was born 20 January 1651 in Watertown, MA to Anthony Beers and Elizabeth. From the records in Watertown shows the entry for John’s birth. It is unknown where Mary was born or who her parents are. I believe she is from Fairfield as that is where the Beers family moved to from Massachusetts. Also, this is where she died after moving back from Stratford.
John served in the King Phillip War and was part of the Garrison at Chelmsford, MA in January 1675 and the Garrison at Lancaster, MA. Below is the entry for the Lancaster Garrison. He received 1 pound and 16 schillings while there. He was involved in the final battle at Narragansett in Rhode Island on 19 December 1675. He was wounded in that battle.
On 12 October 1677, at the General Court in Hartford the following was found:
This is indicating the he was wounded to the point of being disabled. It doesn’t document what the wounds were.
John and Mary were married around 1678 and had 1 child: Samuel 1679. Below is the map of Stratford, CT. John Beers is in lot 54 which is near the top.
Not much has been found about the family in Stratford. The town cemetery was placed at the boundary of he Beer’s land. He was added to the Church of Christ in 1680. His will was made in February 1683 and was proved in March 1683. He mentioned his wife Mary, 4 year old son Samuel, brother Barnabas, and sisters Elizabeth and Johnson. Five years later, Mary died in Fairfield leaving Samuel an orphan. All I have been able to find is that Samuel was a ward of Robert Turney of Fairfield. Coincidentally, Robert is my 9x gg that I have already written about. I don’t know where Samuel ended up, but as noted above, John named a brother and 2 sisters in his will so perhaps one of them took Samuel in. Otherwise, maybe someone from Mary’s side of the family raised him but I haven’t been able to trace her surname so can’t look any farther for her.
I do not know where either John or Mary are buried.
