My 8x Great Grandparents, Zachariah Bostwick and Elizabeth lived in Stratford, CT. Zachariah born 25 July 1669 in Stratford to John Bostwick and Mary Brinsmead. I have already written about his parents as they are the parents of another great grandfather, John Bostwick. It is unknown what Elizabeth’s last name is so her birth date and place are unknown also.
Zachariah and Elizabeth married around 1690 and had 10 children: David 1691, Mary 1693, Martha 1695, Jonathon 1697, Susanna 1700, Parnell 1702, Elizabeth 1704, Ephraim 1706, Zachariah 1710, and Meredith 1715.
They were farmers in Stratford and in 1690 the land he was given by his father was recorded. He had 10 acres of land and half the home lot, pasture, meadow, and swamp land.
Elizabeth died sometime after the birth of Meredith in 1715. Where she is buried is unknown.
Zachariah remarried to Coziah Talmadge after 1715 and no children are attributed to them. Coziah’s name is sometimes spelled Keziah.
Zachariah Bostwick died in 1734 and the inventory of his estate was 4 September 1734. He named all of his children and his wife in the will. He accumulated an impressive amount of land. This includes the home lot worth 160 pounds, 3 acres at the ox pasture 3o pounds, 18 acres at second hill 250 pounds, 20 acres at bear swamp 300 pounds, 4 acres in the new field 73 pounds, 1/4 acre in the old field 42 pounds, 1 acre in the salt meadow 16 pounds. The land was divided up among his 5 sons. His 5 married daughters received 20 schillings apiece as they had already received their share. His wife received half the home and barn, land, the movable estate that she brought with her and 2 cows.
It is not known where Zachariah is buried. Coziah died 2 years later and I have not found a will for her.
I normally continue to trace the line back to the ancestor that came to America but I have already done that with this line. Zachariah and his brother John are both my great grandfathers. I have written about their parents and grandparents. The chart below illustrates the tree. It shows the first 2 generations in America, Arthur and John. Then the brothers John and Zachariah(the subject of this post). John’s son Joseph and Zachariah’s daughter Susanna are cousins. Joseph’s son Joseph married Susanna’s daughter Bette.
