Thanksgiving Memories-52 Ancestors- Thankful

This weeks prompt for 52 Weeks of Ancestors is Thankful. The picture below is a beautiful example of celebrating Thanksgiving. My husband’s family all came over from Italy between the 1890s-1920s. One of the people in the picture is Concetta Gambino better known by the family as Grandma Jennie. I wrote about her here and she is sitting at the table on the left. The rest of the family at the table clockwise from Concetta are: Mike (her grandchild), Louis Stanzione and his wife Grace, Laura (her grandchild), Matilda Zacchia (her daughter), standing are Michael Stanzione (Matilda’s husband) and the child is John (Laura’s son and my husband).SCAN0126

The first Thanksgiving I spent with the family included a lot of food. The typical spread at one of these feasts includes:

Stuffed Artichokes

Antipasto

Lasagna

Manicotti

Turkey

 Ham

Fried Cauliflower

Stuffed Mushrooms

Yams

Stuffing

Chocolate Cream Pie

Pumpkin Pie

Mixed Nuts

The first course would be the artichokes and antipasto. Then the pastas came out. Next the meats and sides. Desserts and nuts were last. Many happy hours were spent at the table eating and talking. Happy Thanksgiving!
